ROMEO is Active on Legend Lake
Posted on Mar 1st, 2012

About 8-10 years ago, a group of men from Legend lake started the original ROMEO's. After a while it kind of went idle, some men moved and some passed away.  Jim Skmoski saw an opportunity to get it going again, so he asked two of the remaining  eight  if they would mind if a new group used their name and would get it rolling again. They were pleased and when they are here they try to make every get-together, (notice I say get-together not meeting). The new group had hats made up which say ROMEO on the front and Legend lake on the back. For those that do not know what  ROMEO stands for it is Real Old Men Eating Out, ( Jim wanted Retired Old Men Eating Out, but got voted down). They have a general discussion with whatever someone wants to bring up, anywhere from where they are going to have their next get-together at or a fishing report from some of the guys on the fish committee.

The hats will be available at the lodge and at their get-togethers. Their numbers are down now because a lot of our guys migrate to Florida in the winter. They  started out in November with about 22 guys and average around 12 guys in the slow time. Usually they get-together at the War Bonnet in Keshena at 11:30.  but  get together at different places like Farm Inn in Shawano.  The group gets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.

Originally it was intended to be just a few of the guys to get together just for breakfast, but it kind of expanded. That's okay, Jim's goal also was to be able to get together with his friends while they still can. As we speak some are ailing and already cannot make it on a regular basis so they do what they can, when they can. There is no age limit or qualifications, just a good spirit and a liking to have a good time. Sometime this is the only way we know how everyone is doing. This group doesn't have a sunshine club, but Jim himself will try to see who needs some company if they are ailing, or have a operation, or are laid up. Jim says, "Hopefully I will be able to call on someone to help me with this, because some day we may all need this, me included."

We will try to post where and when ROMEO's next get-together will be. The regulars do receive a mailing once every other week between our get-togethers, by email. There are no dues, but they usually collect a dollar from each of the guys when they come in and then split it into two pots to raffle off with a draw of names out of a hat, that usually pays for their day out.
