Winter 2010
Our Boating Safety course for 2011 is scheduled for the week of June 20, 2011.
This course is conducted by volunteer instructors, parents and other helpers who give their time and effort to promote safe boating on our lake. It cannot be held without these volunteers.
Those whose child is enrolled in the Boating Safety Class often volunteer to help but we need additional help to hold a quality class. Tuesday and Wednesday are instruction days. We need people to:
- Time activities and help move the groups of students from activity to activity
- Help in on-shore sessions such as measurements, compass, Anchors and paddles, boat inspection, knot tying and others.
Thursday is skills day, where students are given hands on, in the water instruction. To accomplish this safely, skills day requires a large number of adult volunteers for the following:
- Operate the Safety rowboat , monitoring the Kayak / Canoe Course (standing by in case of an emergency)
- Supply and man a spotter boat. (You will be watching the jet ski and motor boat course, anchored off shore and standing by in case of an emergency).
- Wade into waist deep water to help sink a boat (In order to make the boat sink faster and keep students safe, adults must be in the water)
- Supervise mounting and dismounting PWC's ( We need 2 people to stand in waist deep water, helping students on and off of the jet skis as we run the course.)
Friday is final exam day and we can always use help scoring exams, monitoring exam rooms, aiding with outdoor activities and graduation ceremonies.
If you are interested in helping us this year, we need you. Please contact us. You can call the lodge or contact Rhode Nelson directly at 715-799-3701.
