LLPOA Board Member at our Service
Posted on May 2nd, 2013
The LLPOA would like to extend special thanks to Board Member Scott Schultz.  Using his own heavy equipment, fuel and time, Scott spent over 9 hours this week at the compost site making significant improvements including deepening and leveling the burn pit, regrading the road and moving the leaf pile.  Another example of your volunteer LLPOA Board working on the behalf of us all.  Thanks Scott!

Boating Safety Class 2013, June 24 through June 28
Posted on Apr 8th, 2013
The class meets mornings until noon. Boating Safety Classes has the been a successful effort to teach young people the rules for safe boating for 17 years. The cost of the class is $10.00
Unlike the web site Boating Safety Course the classroom offers a lot of hands on experience. The students try to walk a straight line with drunk glasses. They get a feel of what hypothermia is and remember it. There is a lesson on a personal watercraft (jet ski), tiller boat, and kayak if possible. What is the distance of 100 feet and 200 feet? Both distances are very important to boater who wish to boat safely and avoid a ticket. Of course there are classroom lessons that are reinforce by active learning.
Questions? Contact Wayne Towne 715 799 3080 and leave a message.

Help Wanted for Boating Safety Class
The unfortunate accident that took the life of Boating Safety Instructor, Mike Green, last summer left a hole in the class staff. The staff will welcome persons who would like to help. They would be apprentices and be mentored by experienced instructors. For more information contact Wayne Towne, LLPRD, PO Box 95, Keshena, WI 54235 or call 715-799-3080 and leave a message.

Boating License to Operate Water Craft
The license that is earned at a Boating Safety Course is a life time license. If a person is required to have the license to operate a water craft they must carry it with them while operating a water craft. Just like the boat registration card don’t be caught without it.

Open Book / Board of Review Menominee County
Posted on Apr 8th, 2013
Open Book - Monday, June 10th 4-6pm
Board of Review - Wednesday, June 26th 5-7pm

Here is an explination of Open Book and the Board of Review

OPEN BOOK
After the assessor determines property values, notices are sent to property owners showing these new values. If a taxpayer has questions with the assessment, it is good to arrange to meet with the assessor to examine the individual assessment record and discuss how the assessment was made.   All property records are “Open Records”.  If unable to meet privately with the assessor, an Open Book session is held to give property owners the opportunity to view other property values in the municipality and compare other values to theirs.  An assessor is allowed to make changes that are necessary to perfect the assessment roll at the Open Book session.  After this, the property owners can protest their property values by requesting a hearing at the Board of Review.

BOARD OF REVIEW
The Board of Review is the first step in the appeal process.   To have an assessment reduced, the owner must prove that the property is over assessed in comparison with similar property in the municipality.  Wis Stats 70.47(7)(ae) requires anyone planning to protest an assessment to provide to the Board, in writing, their estimate of the value of the land and of all improvements that are the subject of the review and to specify the information that the person used to arrive at that estimate.  In other words, an objector should have considerable information that is relevant to the market value of their non-agricultural property.   This would include a recent arm’s-length sale of your property, and recent sales of comparable properties.  Other factors to include are size and location of the lot, size and age of the building, original cost, depreciation, and income potential, to name some of the factors.

Both Open Book & Board of Review will be held in the Board Room at the County Courthouse. Open book is for tax payers who wish to discuss their assessed value with the Assessor.  Board of Review is for tax payers who wish to contest their assessed value, to do so they need to fill out an objection form and file it with the town clerk 48 hours before the Board of Review date.

*Please contact Accurate Appraisal to set up an appointment to speak to an Assessor at the Open Book

Adult Boating Safety Class Opportunity
Posted on Apr 1st, 2013

Adults may sign up for the Legend Lake Boating Safety Class. There are two ways adults may take advantage of the Boating Safety Class.

One: Adults may register and pay the $10.00 class fee, attend 16 hours of class, study the text booklet and take the test. They would then receive water craft license card. Some insurance companies will give a discount on the boats of persons who have passed the test. The license card is the proof of having passed a Boating Safety Class. Registration is limited to first come, first serve.

Two: Adults may monitor the class for their personal education of boating law. They do not have to take any test and there would be a $5.00 fee for materials. Registration is necessary as the number of students is limited.

The Boating Safety Class is from 8:00 AM to noon, June 24 through June 28, 2013.
