Police, Sheriff and Security
Posted on Jan 23rd, 2012
Don’t forget that if you have a general question for the Sheriff’s Department you can ask it through the “Police, Sheriff and Security" section on this website.   Recently a question was asked about some rumors of break ins.  Here is a portion of the response:

“ . . . .fortunately for Legend Lakers the grapevine has given you false information. There have not been a "number of break-ins" ANYWHERE on the lake, that is unless people are not reporting things to the Sheriff's Department. I checked all calls back to December 1st and there has not been one break-in, which is great! I am very glad that you asked me, now you have the correct information, which alleviates the passing of rumors to more people. Thank you for your question, it's good to hear from you again!!”

Fish Committee Report
Posted on Jan 12th, 2012
Ice on lakes and rivers is never 100% safe.  Take precautions on the ice so that your body is not in the lead car of a procession.
George and David Sweet volunteered to help with the Tribal Conservation and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department fall fish survey.  Over 200 pictures were taken of the procedure and some of the fish that were found.  One outstanding fish pictured is a 60 inch musky.  A copy of this picture with George holding it is posted in the lodge office.  George has requested that he be on the LLPOA June Annual Meeting agenda to show a small number of these pictures.  A decision was made to see if it would be possible to show the pictures in June instead of the August Annual Meeting of the LLPRD to let people see the ones that got away.

Legend Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District Chairman’s Report Fall/Winter 2011/2012
Posted on Jan 12th, 2012
Our dams are in great shape.  AECOM engineers  and DNR inspectors found no problems at Dam #1.  At Dam #3 there was some brush at the toe of the dam that could be removed,  some rip rap that has been lost over time and will be replaced, and minor chips in the grout at the outflow pipe will be repaired in the spring.  This is no more than normal maintenance.  There were no more recommendations for Dam #3 except to keep doing what is being done to maintain the facility.  A new law requires that high hazard dams ( dams where there are people in danger if the dam fails) must be inspected every 2 years.
The grate at the inflow end of the pipe that goes trough the dam was discovered to have fallen away by a diver is fastened back in place.  An annual flush of the toe drains was done.  The annual flush of the toe drains will add years to the life of the toe drains.  David Sweet has been trained for monthly inspections of the dams.  During periods of high water and after a heavy rain, David inspects the dams more frequently.  The health and maintenance of our dams is the most important charge of the LLPRD.

Posted on Dec 29th, 2011
A Boating Safety Course sponsored by the Legend Lake Protection & Rehabilitation District will take place at the Legend Lake Lodge.  To cover registration and introductions the first class will begin at 8:00 AM Monday June 25 and last until 12:00 PM.  The rest of the class days will begin at 9:00 PM and last until 12:00 PM.  Students younger than 12 years of age will be accepted into the class but will not be allowed to operate a boat until they are 12.   The permit earned by a student is like a driver’s license  for life and must be carried with them when operating a boat regardless of age.   Class size is limited to 30 students and most years in the past has filled up by May.  Each student must have a WI DNR Customer Number.  The number is obtained by calling 1-888-936-7463 and requesting the number.  To register a student for the class fill out a form, send a check for $10.00 (refundable if the student cannot attend), and mail to: Wayne Towne, LLPRD, PO Box 95, Keshena, WI 54135.

ADRC OF WISCONSIN
Posted on Dec 16th, 2011
The Aging and Disability Center of the Wolf River Region is opening its doors after January 9th 2012.  A phone call to 1-855-492-2372 will take the caller to a full time person in Shawano.  She will then transfer the caller to the appropriate areas (i.e. Menominee, Stockbridge Munsee, Oconto, Shawano).  This service is available to all people, not just Menominee people in this area.  The office here in Keshena will be at the Menominee County Health and Human Service office on Wolf River Road.  They will have a website at www.adrcwrr.org . Be interesting to see how this all works out.  They have been messing with it for three years so at least it will be up and running.

I am not - I emphasize - suggesting that any of you are in the aging or disability department, but you just might know people in the area who are and may not know what facilities there are out there for them!!!!!
